ABOUT

MORLEY IS NOW A FAIRTRADE TOWN

Morley Fairtrade Town is a group of local people from churches, businesses, schools and community groups, with the support of Morley Town Council. The group is open to anyone who is interested in helping maintaining Morley as a Fairtrade Town. The group was set up to establish Fairtrade Town status for Morley, which we achieved in 2018.

To make Morley an official Fairtrade Town we are helping to have shops, schools and businesses become Fairtrade places by offering Fairtrade products.

To achieve Fairtrade Town status we needed to show that:

  • A range of Fairtrade products (at least four) are sold in local shops and served in local cafes and restaurants.
  • The local council has passed a resolution supporting Fairtrade.
  • Fairtrade products are used by a number of local workplaces and community organisations (places of worship, schools etc.).
  • There is popular support for the campaign – including media coverage and events raise awareness and understanding of Fairtrade across the community.
  • A group has been convened to ensure continued commitment to Fairtrade Town status and that campaign continues to develop and gain new support.

Fairtrade Town status is re-accredited each year, and we need to build upon the shops, businesses and schools offering Fairtrade produce and being Fairtrade organisations in Morley.

Fairtrade is a simple way to make a difference to the lives of the people who grow the things we love. Fairtrade does this by changing the way trade works through better prices, decent working conditions and a fair deal for farmers and workers.

You may have seen or heard of some Fairtrade products, but there may be more than you think – there are over 4,500 Fairtrade products from coffee and tea to flowers and chocolate. You will probably already be buying Fairtrade products without realising, and you are already helping the people who grow our foods.
